Twitter is much easier to understand than Facebook is, right off the bat. Everything you need is right in front of you. (I say this now, but by next week I'm sure I will have found tons of new features with Twitter that are impossible to learn.) But both sites give you basic information about a person. With Facebook you can check the info tab to find out about the person, and on Twitter you can see the kind of people they follow and see a brief summary of their likes on their profile.
Although I'm a huge fan of Facebook, given my youth and my "need" to see basis of the most mundane pictures people I haven't talked to in years, I can see Twitter becoming my future for online socializing given its more professional style.
